	The first step in registering a Domain Name is to find a unique name that is suitable and satisfactory to you and your uses.  Unfortunately, since the explosion in the number of web sites and domains on the Internet, finding this unique name is becoming harder and harder by the day.  Three and four letter domain names  are virtually impossible to find.  Nearly every combination has already been registered.  The same is becoming true for the longer names as well. Consequently it is often necessary to spend a good deal of time thinking about and searching for an available Domain Name. 						When choosing a domain name, you may use up to 63 characters, not including the .com, .net or .org.  Letters, numbers and hyphens - within the name - are allowed.
	When you have decided on one or several suitable domain names for yourself, you will need to check the availability of that name.  You can do that now by going to the whois lookup. This will connect you to the shared registry through the CORE whois database. Enter your desired Domain Name. Do not type http:// or www -- only type the desired name and extension as in the examples: YOURNAME.COM or  YOURNAME.ORG or YOURNAME.NET In reply, the database will tell you if the name is available to be registered, and if not, who the present owner or registrar is for that name.  Sometimes it will take several tries before you find a name that is available to be registered.
	You may want to try our Registration Wizard.  After you create a log-in account for yourself, you'll be able to use the CASDNS whois program  which simultaneously tells you the availability of the .com, .net and .org versions of your desired domain name.
